A Loafer from Alden's Cape Cod Collection

Give a man a fish and he’ll eat for a day. Show a man what kind of shoes Norweigan fisherman in the 1900s wore, and you’ll introduce a new silhouette into contemporary men’s footwear that will long outlive its inventors. That’s how the modern penny loafer became such an absolute staple.

Alden includes their own iteration of the design in their special Cape Cod collection by paying homage to the popular Massachusetts fishing and vacation destination. Feast your eyes on the Beefroll Penny Mocc in Burnished Burgundy. The shoe itself is made up of a beautiful, durable full grain calf leather – the topmost and densest layer of the hide from which the hair is removed, containing the most natural leather grain.

Full grain leather is the thickest leather as it is the full hide in it’s entirety, offering maximum protection and the best aging patina. In a traditional beefroll (referring to the toe box stitch pattern that resembles rolls of tied beef) style construction, this is the most eye-catching of loafer silhouettes.

Sitting on a dense leather outsole in Alden’s 800 last shape, the Penny Mocc is designed to fit true to size with an “E” width. It’s a fine piece of footwear – a truly understated classic.
