John Lofgren Sizing Guide
John Lofgren has earned a reputation as one of the finest bootmakers in the world. They refuse to make concessions when it comes to material and build quality, choosing to support skilled craftspeople and heritage suppliers at every step of the design process. Each pair is made in Japan, and leathers are sourced from the finest tanneries in Japan, USA and Europe. Leather is cut from the hide so that it supports the right area of each shoe, minimizing waste and adding a unique touch to each pair. No two hides are the same, so each John Lofgren boot will have its own character.
Each Lofgren pair uses Goodyear welt construction, for a durable, water-resistant connection between the upper and sole. Beneath the insole of each pair is a metal shank and cork filling, for structure and support. The shank adds structure and arch support, whereas the cork gently molds to the wearer's foot over time. Only natural cork is used (as opposed to synthetic alternatives), as it offers the best shock absorption, resilience and breathability,
Lofgren outsoles are sourced from Japan, USA and Italy, and one craftsperson is entrusted for all outsole stitching. Boot heels are attached with nails and a heated adhesive, and all outsole edges are shaped by hand in three phases. After construction, each pair is cleaned and polished, then examined to ensure they meet Logren’s high quality standards.
We’ll walk you through sizing here, so you can best approximate which silhouette will work for you. All Lofgren lasts draw inspiration from vintage footwear, and they are reworked to be most balanced and proportional. Silhouettes are not available with multiple widths– they are designated a D (standard) or E (wide).
TL;DR: If you have E width feet, we recommend taking a half size down in any last on the E width, and going true to size in any D width last. Every foot is different, so we do recommend trying on a pair before buying if possible.
110 WIDTH D
The 110 last is on the roomier side for a D width, with a wider heel, slim waist and a slightly elongated, almond-shaped toe. It’s roomy width-wise through the forefoot. We recommend taking a half size down if you have a D width foot, and going true to size if you have an E width / wide foot.
A note on the LK-003 John Lofgren Wabash Engineer Boot- if you have a higher instep, you may find it difficult to get your foot in these. Lofgren Engineer boots have a slimmer shaft and a lower instep.
170 WIDTH D
Again, these run slightly big for a D width, to be accommodating for most feet. They have a wider heel, narrow waist and are a bit more slim through the toe box than the 110 last. Lofgren Ropers have a much wider shaft, so higher-volume feet will have an easier time getting into these. We recommend taking a half size down for a D width foot, and true to size for an E width / wide foot.
210 WIDTH D
El Capitan boots feature a wider heel, slimmer waist and a rounded, unstructured lower volume toe box. They are accommodating for a D width. We recommend taking a half size down for a D width foot, and true to size for an E width / wide foot.
260 WIDTH D
Fun fact- these are inspired by Roy Chapman Andrews- the muse for Indiana Jones! The Chapman boot is cut roomy for a D width, with a roomy forefoot, slim waist and narrow- to- regular heel width. It’s got a structured toe and a slightly elongated, rounded appearance. We recommend taking a half step down for D-width / narrow feet, and going true to size for E width / wide feet.
MUNSON WIDTH D
The M-43 Service Shoes have a lower volume, rounded toe box similar to the El Capitan. Being on the Munson last, they have an anatomical fit with good arch support, a narrow waist and slightly wider forefoot. We recommend taking a half step down for D-width / narrow feet, and going true to size for E width / wide feet.
140 WIDTH E
This is where sizing starts to change! Anything built on the 140 last will have a wider waist and more room through the forefoot. We recommend taking a half step down for those if you have high volume feet / wider feet, and going a full size down if you have D width / narrower feet.
120 WIDTH E
This will be the widest last that John Lofgren offers, so it’ll work for most feet. Boots on this last still have a narrow waist, but more room at the heel and forefoot. Again, we recommend taking a half size down for wider feet, and a full size down for narrower feet (D width and narrower).
