An absolute sight to behold, the indigo-dyed A-2 jacket from The Real McCoy’s. This is a truly one-of-a-kind piece, unlike anything else on the market. Indigo dyeing, or aizome, is an artform in itself. It begins with fermenting the indigo plant to create sukumo, a water-soluble dye base. From there, the dye is mixed with natural elements, wood ash, sake, lime, to continue the fermentation and deepen its complexity.
Each jacket is dipped an almost unimaginable 12 times to achieve its rich, deep blue hue. The result is a wearable work of art, every piece slightly different, each bearing the story of its own dyeing process. You won’t find anything comparable, and you won’t see a jacket like this again anytime soon. After the dyeing is complete and the jacket is hand-stamped, it’s washed and dried by hand to reveal its final appearance. Like we said: a sight to behold.”
